Wireless and wideband communication are the hot topics in the field of communication. Wireless communication makes the communication in anywhere anytime and with anyone possible. And the wideband communication can deliver the data, voice, video and other information to companies and individuals quickly, which makes the work and life diversified. Thus, the integration of the wireless communication and the wideband communication is the direction of the development of future communication. Based on the fact, Radio On Fiber technique and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing are studied in this paper.RoF technique takes the advantage of the fiber and high frequency radio wave to realize the wideband communication with lower attenuation loss, large bandwidth, the immunity to radio frequency interference, the easy installation and maintenance, the reduced power consumption and the operational flexibility. OFDM technique is a multi-subcarriers modulation technique, which is one standard in the future 4G communication system. This technique has high robustness against fading channel and has high frequency efficiency. It is considered as an ideal modulation method because of its low system complexity and easy equalization. The key techniques in OFDM-ROF system are discussed and analyzed with simulation platform based on Matlab in this paper. Background, the network architecture and the advantage of the ROF are discussed in the first chapter. The second chapter introduces the theory and advantage of OFDM technique with High Peak-to-Average Power issue highlighted. The key techniques of OFDM-ROF system such as wireless channel, channel estimation, the optical modulation formats and the up-conversion technique are discussed in the third chapter. The forth chapter is the core chapter in the paper, which utilizes Matlab simulation platform to analyze important factors of both wireless and optical link in the system. A new combined adaptive modulation method is investigated based on previous analysis in the fifth chapter, which can mitigate the effects of nonlinear distortion from RoF link and frequency-selected fading in wireless transmission at the same time. Finally, the conclusion and expectation are given in the last chapter.
