Communication signal modulation style identification has a wide range of applications in the management of radio signals, detection and non-cooperative communication. The correct and effective identification of modulation is directly related to the success of the follow-up signal processing. The early modulation identification mainly relied on human intervention.It is necessary that the professional and technical person determined the received signals. They must adjust the receiver's demodulation style to try to judge. This mean of identification is low in efficiency and degree of automation so as that it is difficult to meet the complex signal and the fast short-time signal processing and efficient reception.With the rapid development of digital signal processing technology and the introduction of software-defined radio, some more complex algorithms can be made a real-time implementation by specific integrated circuit, which makes the realization of automatic modulation identification device possible. The main task of this paper is to apply the basic theory and methods of digital signal processing to practical modulation identification in order to design and implement a practical device which is able to identify common communication signal modulation style based on existed research result. Using the device we will solve some practical problems in specific applications. Full-text largely consists of two parts. One is that based on the mathematical expression of modulated signals we analyzed theirs characteristics, extracted theirs key features and concluded the modulation recognition algorithm. Combined with the basic theory of digital signal processing we formed a complete and practical identification method and simulated several analog modulation and digital modulation styles by the computer simulation. Besides we respectively gave identification process of several analog modulation styles and several digital modulation styles. At the same time, we also gave hybrid identification process of analog and digital modulation styles. The other is that based on the simulation results and from a practical point of view we combined with software-defined radio idea and designed digital signal processing hardware platform. Based on BIOS real-time operating system, we implemented the algorithm by a dedicated digital signal processing chip.
