With the rapid development of network technology and the largely increase in network traffic, network traffic have been more complex. Then, people take more focuses on the performance of network application system. After long phases of measurement on network traffic, the outcome has shown that the packet traffic is associated with fractal property in real network application environment. And it can also be described by using fractal model which is much fitter for describing the real situation of network operations. To better test and evaluate the performance of network application effectively, the testing method which combines the testing process and fractal network traffic model can be able to reflect the real performance of network application objectively.In this paper, we firstly present the researches and theories of network traffic. And we summarize and analyze the methods of some network traffic models. Then we take a further research on Multi-fractal Wavelet Model and achieve the method of generating fractal network traffic. We also improve the method to make the parallel traffic sources generate network traffic.In this paper, we design and implement a distributed network traffic generating system based on Multi-fractal Wavelet Model. This system can synthesize fractal network traffic by controlling multi-computer and applying a parallel algorithm to make testing for network application system. We present the architecture design, the functions, the mechanism of control, the information interact and the implementation of this distributed testing system.Finally, in this paper, we also design a specified analytical traffic detection tool to test the performance of this network traffic generation system. Via analyzing the network traffic which is generated by this generation system, the results show that the network traffic has the fractal property.
