Wireless sensor network is a distributed network made up of many random distribution, small size, low-cost and low-power sensor nodes by the way of self-organization. It is a new information acquisition and processing technology which combines micro-electric technology, sensing technology, embedded computing technology, distributed information processing and wireless communication technology. It can monitor, sense and gather information on a variety of environments or objects for real-time and transmit it to users after procession. It has broad application prospects such as environmental monitoring, national defense and military, traffic management and so on.Node self-positioning is one of the core technologies in wireless sensor networks and is the premise of many applications. It is significant to achieve highly efficient and reliable node localization for event observation, target tracking and efficient routing. So node self-localization algorithm in wireless sensor networks is the main research content in this paper. The major work can be summarized as follows: 1. On the basis of reading a large number of relevant literature, research background and international research, dynamics for wireless sensor network are overviewed. Architecture, features, key technologies and its applications are analyzed briefly.2. The basic principle of the node location, the evaluation index and classification of the algorithm for wireless sensor network are discussed. The basic principles of several existing typical localization algorithms, the error sources and their performances are analyzed in detail. And then advantages and disadvantages of algorithms are analyzed comparatively.3. The DV-Hop localization algorithm which is one of the Range-Free algorithms is researched deeply. Firstly, algorithmic process, error sources, and the amount of communication and computing for Traditional DV-Hop algorithm are analyzed. For low positioning accuracy in Conventional DV-Hop localization algorithm, an improved DV-Hop localization algorithm based on estimate of average hop distance, Min-Max and position correction is brought forward. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm can improve the positioning accuracy more effectively without increasing hardware consumption in nodes comparing with conventional DV-Hop algorithm. So it is a practical and effective node localization method in wireless sensor networks.
