Since 1990s virtual reality technique because of its unique multi-sensory, immersion, interaction and autonomy has been one of the hot spots in IT field. It creates a living virtual environment by using computer and allows the users communicate with it freely. Now VR is widely used in the military,medicine,education,virtual travel,shopping,games,movies, engineering, exploring technology etc.Virtual reality technology is one important application of computer games. Since the early 90s, due to the development of individual PC, as well as after 10 years, the popularity of computer games, especially 3D games have become indispensable in the life of entertainment. As the computer games industry and the development of virtual reality technology, the game engine also came into being.When game engine will be the introduction of "Digital Campus" of the study, this campus planning and design provides a new means.In this paper, Southwest Jiaotong University Juli Campus campus as the background to develop a virtual campus system based on the game engine 3DGS(3D GameStudio), thus enabling the virtual campus roaming and interactions. The main contents of the research are as follows:Firstly, we analyzed some modeling technology and compared the based on graphical modeling and based on image modeling technology, pointed out the apply area of the two technology,then,we decided to use graphical modeling technology as the main modeling method.Secondly, we investigated the key technology of scene modeling and focuses on visual modeling technique. On this basis, the key to the rational use of modeling techniques, from modeling, optimization and used a three-dimensional virtual scene modeling, optimization techniques and methods. A good solution to the "real time" and "realistic" contradictions, significantly improve the system's real-time rendering and response speed.Thirdly, we analyed the 3DGS game engine and have established a multi-user online exchange platform, using C/S (Client/Server) as the basic structure of network communications. Users can, and other online users to exchange, interaction, and feel of a community-based roaming experience; throughout the campus scene by adding a variety of nodes to achieve a roaming function, multi-angle switching, navigation chart shows, the natural environment simulation, interactive features, improved roaming the entire virtual campus system; On this basis, the use of panels and buttons used to achieve the user the freedom to manage three-dimensional scene. Fourthly, we designed and realized 3D racing game, enhanced the stystem's entertainment.This paper has undergone theoretical analysis into the complete process of design practice, it completed the basic functions of the system. The demo result indicates that, the system can be real-time display, with good fidelity, three-dimensional feeling and interactivity. At last, I did some basic researches by using the game engine technology other field.
