In recent years, conventional detection systems, such as radar and sonar, have encountered more and more threats with the increase of complexity in modern battlefield circumstances. Passive location technology has been paid more and more attention because of its self-hiding, far-detection and counter-stealth ability. In this dissertation, passive positioning and tracking technology based on GPS external illuminator in multi-static radar system was studied. This dissertation first introduced the fundamental geometrical prosperities of passive location, the characteristic of GPS signal was analyzed then. The location method based on TDOA was described and the location formula is deduced in detail. After this, the extended Kalman filter was introduced. The influence of factors such as range measurement precision on the performance of passive location and track was analyzed and simulated. Simulation proved that the proposed method has the advantages of fast converging speed, stable performance and high precision.
