Information hiding algorithms based on vector quantization have developed in recent years. The algorithms divide the input image into several blocks according to the high correlation between adjacent image blocks. These input vectors form the space Rk. Then the vector quantization operation is performed. Only the indexes of input vectors are transmitted to the receiver. Compared to traditional quantization methods, this method can achieve high compression rate and save the storage space effectively.The codebook design algorithms, codewords search algorithms and the assignments of indexes are key technologies of vector quantization method. LBG algorithm is the classical algorithm for codebook design and is foundation of other algorithms. There are information hiding algorithms based on codebook classification and the characteristics of indexes according to the feature of watermark embedding methods. This paper carried out simulation and experiments about both two kinds of algorithms and proposed a new algorithm based on multiple extended codebooks in development. This method can reach higher compression rate, high embedding capacity and low computing complexity.
