In connection with needs of cultural heritage protection and digital archaeological research, this paper presents the situation of digital archaeological technology research and application home and abroad. The development trends of current digital archaeological is analyzed including relics data acquisition,reconstruction of 3D,display technology,and study from 3D reconstruction of archaeological excavation sites, reconstruction of culture sites, reparation of archaeological finds and technology of their virtual display. Three-dimensional laser scanning, GIS and virtual reality technology were applied to the reconstruction and display of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the Xi Han tombs and other ancient sites.Main contents of this article is as follows:1) 3D point data acquisition of ancient sites(Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Zhang Shi-Han tombs for example). Based on image processing means, the de-noising,simplify and meshing of point cloud data were studied, three technology of pre-processing of the point cloud data.2) The three-dimensional reconstruction of realistic ancient sites. Two kinds of major post-processing technologies were studied in modeling ancient sites:the triangular mesh repair techniques and mesh simplification techniques. Reconstruction of ancient sites based on point cloud data. We proposed a new way for multi-resolution models merging, as well as combining the ancient sites of model groups to a large scene of ancient sites. Finally,the sense of reality processing of ancient sites 3D models was studied.3) GIS functionality implementation of ancient sites. two operating modes were used:vector maps and satellite maps (Xi'an map, for example),we achieved common GIS information query, positioning, Eagle Eye diagram and other features.4) Design and implement GIS-based3D virtual roaming system of ancient sites, Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Zhang Shi-Han tombs as an example, and GIS technology was applied to digital protection of archaeology and cultural sites.
