Research On The Method Of Ranking Scientific Papers Based On Reading Value

Since the end of 20th century, the whole society stepped into the knowledge economy era with the development of information technology. In the process of the innovative country construction, as a kind of important information source, information and knowledge becomes the key to advancing core competence for the nations, organizations and the persons.With the science and technology become more specialized and integrated, fast acquisition of knowledge and valuable information is an urgent demand for the scientific workers, who are the main innovation subjects. The preparation of scientific literature is a necessary step and an important foundation of the scientific work, but at present there are always hundreds and thousands of related papers which are searched from the electronic journal database. In the scientific literature service, how to estimate the reading value of a scientific paper and then obtain the related knowledge quickly and accurately is a common requirement.Knowledge service brings new development opportunities for current libraries, however there are few research in the feasible method to knowledge service at home and abroad, and current electronic retrieval system and the facilities can't meet this demand.In view of above common problems, the paper analyzes the possible factors related to the reading value, and obtains the fourth most important factors the scientific workers pay attention to. Simulating the process of scientific workers preparing papers, we provides a method named PaperRank for ranking scientific papers based on Google's PageRank, and then validates it by an experiment. PaperRank method synthetically considers those factors which reflecting the reading value of the papers such as content, journal, author and published time, and it can be used to obtain not only the ranking results of the papers, but also the knowledge of the important authors, periodical, and institutions in a certain problem or field.PaperRank provide a new idea and a new attempt to the libraries'knowledge service. The application of this method would avoid the problems brought by the librarians who provide knowledge service straightly, and it also would save time for scientific workers, and provide technical support for their innovation work.
