| The digital information in electronic archives has its openness in the process of utilization, transmission and copying, this brings about the unsecured effect in saving electronic archives. The digital information in electronic archives could be used in internet environment to achieve sharing information, the problem of internet security has became more and more serious, it has already greatly affect the information security in electronic archives.Now, there are many information technologies are used in the protection of digital archive, the digital watermarking is a new technology in copy-right protection of multi-media and the reliability certification of contents, it grows quickly since 1990s, it has became a hot research topic in the world.The technology of digital watermarking is developed under the scene of the growing popularity of internet, the communication of multi-media information has reached a unprecedented depth and breadth, however, the infringement of works has became easier, tampering is more convenient. Digital watermarking is an important branch of information hiding technology and it is a brand new technology of protecting digital product. This embeds the specific digital information into image, audio, video, software or other digital products, in order to achieve information security and copy-right protection.Digital watermarking technology is applied in the archives information resource utility area, in order to solve the digital archives information as evidence, it needs the digital watermark be able to recognize the digital archives information and check the completeness. One approach is using the digital watermark to prove the source of this digital information and ensure the primitiveness and authenticity of the information; another approach is using the completeness of the extracted digital watermark to identify the completeness of the digital archives information that is to check if it is tampered. In addition, digital watermarking technology can hide the security notation of the digital archives, in this way to protect from the illegal use of the security data and control the access level for different security level.This article discusses the current protection technology of digital archives, points out the hidden danger in digital archive protection; it is followed by the description of basic character, basic principle, typical algorithm, and classification and application areas.
