Wavelet is widely used in image processing. It can decompose the signal to low-level resolution, and it has space and frequency topicality and directivity, which is similar to the human retina image processing mechanism. Thus it can enhance the vision effect of the fusion image. Considering that the vision system of human being is sensitive to the local contrast, we introduced directional contrast into image processing based on wavelet. Unfortunately, wavelet cannot fully take advantage of the geometrical features. It is not the optimal, or the sparsest representation of the functions and easily damages anisotropic edges information in images. Dual-tree complex wavelet transform is an efficient tool to improve image representation of wavelet, for it has more directions. This paper has launched the following work:(1) By the introduction of directional contrast to image fusion. It improved an image fusion method based on the wavelet directional contrast, and had carried on the simulation to it. The experimental results show that this method is superior to that one which takes local average into calculation of directional contrast.(2) A new image fusion method via Dual-tree Complex wavelet transform based on directional contrast and local variation was proposed. And the experimental results show that this method is superior to that one based on wavelet directional contrast.
