Genetic algorithm is an adaptive global optimization algorithm which simulates the genetics and evolution process of the organisms in the natural environment. The individual that is signified by a string as the organisms in population, evolutes base on the genetic operators'operation and iteration, until meet the expectations termination conditions and get the optimal solution of the problem.Under the influence of genetics, genetic biology is proposed based on the electronic circuit design technology, and the electronic circuit has features of the adaptive, immune and self-evolution. So the genetic algorithm is applied to electronic circuit design is the development trend.This paper introduces briefly theory of the genetic algorithm and the active filter, and introduces detailedly the basic procedure of genetic algorithm, the active power filter transfer function and design method. The paper combine the genetic programming and genetic algorithm, which can be applied to the active power filter circuits in the optimization design. And the paper put forward using the improvement tree structure to express the individual, modified the genetic operator, and choose the fitness function. The improved algorithm increases the search ability and convergence rate in the process of optimizing. In order to optimization a circuit model, which has fewer electronic components and can meet the requirements of the circuit, this paper design a third-order active power filter. According to the optimization third-order active filter model, this paper design a particular center and gain infinite third-order chebyshev filter. First, based on genetic program, this paper model third-order active filter circuit structure of the tree structure, do genetic operation for the population by improving the genetic operations and the fitness evaluation, and optimize the third-order active filter model. Second, this paper optimize the parameters of resistance and capacitance by genetic algorithm, code every parameter in binary coding, and optimize parameter by crossover, mutation, fitness evaluation and iteration of genetic operator. Finally, the paper simulate and validate the active power filter circuits by Pspice. The experiment shows that the proposed method can get the satisfactory result.
