MTI and MTD are widely used in modern long distance guard radar as a mature technology to cancel clutter. This paper deals with the design of MTI and MTD modules and discusses some problems in engineering implementation combining with some large scale key model VHF digital array radar.Several design methods of MTI and MTD filters are introduced first, then discussions on some ways of Doppler frequency estimation are given, finally computer simulations and analysis on main algorithm combining with the radar are showed. The general signal processing board (including 8 TS201 and 2 FPGA) adopted here requires processing AMTI and MTD for six pairs sum and difference beam simultaneously. Considering the signal processing speed and data transmission speed, tasks for each DSP are optimized and distributed and AMTI/MTD program on each DSP is also optimized. High speed differential channels and fibers are adopted to transmit data between signal processing boards. Circuit logic design, synthesize and timing simulation on FPGA are implemented mainly on data transmission protocol between boards and between FPGA and eight DSPs. Finally, system debug and performance measurements are taken, the outfield experiment results show the MTI and MTD modules meet the requirements and have good ability on suppression clutter.
