The MPC has received much attention as a powerful tool for the control of industrial process systems. It is important for the modern industrial to maximize beneficial result and decrease the time spent on optimization. In this paper supervisory predictive control is studied and analyzed in detail and the stair-like control strategy is introduced in the supervisory predictive control strategy. Simulations are made on the water level control of a nuclear steam generator and a stirred tank reactor respectively to illustrate the implementation and the performance of the proposed method. Simulation results prove that the method saves operational costs, decreases dimensions of the variables, reduces the computation burden and prevents the frequent oscillation of the input. This paper applies the stair-like predictive control based on variable models to superheated steam temperature control in thermal plant, and makes the software with C. Simulation results show that the software gets a good performance under different power conditions.
