In the recent years, the Wireless Local Networks (WLANs)has developed rapidly. So it has an increasing number of the research of WLANs. Because of the data transmission of IEEE 802.11 WLANs using a wireless channel, it will produce a variety of collisions. The transmission of multipath, the delay spread, the fading and the Doppler effect in the wireless channel will have a inference of the data transmission and make an error of the packet. The WLANs uses a carrier sense multiple access mechanism, which leads a more control frames. So the research of throughput and delay has become more and more important. There are many mathematical models to research the WLANs, for example, the two-dimensional Markov model and the queuing model. This paper will use the queuing model. This paper corrects the G/G/∞queuing model's service time which is proposed and gets the accurate result of the transmission probability. Based on the corrected model, the IEEE 802.11 DCF WLAN's basic and RTS/CTS access mechanisms'saturation throughput is analyzed and the average packet delay for a lossy channel is derived. The unsaturated throughput is also analyzed using this model. And we can get the relationship between the packet arrival rate and the throughput. This model applies to saturation and unsaturated conditions of IEEE 802.11 WLANs with different data rates, the results are verified by simulation with ns.
