Photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has been the new type fiber increasing scientific and technological interest for many years. PCF has a unique microstructure consisting of an array of microscopic holes running along the entire fiber length. These holes act as optical barriers which can confine the light within a central core. Because of chromatic dispersion character of PCF, there has been enormous new space in the study for researchers. As well as known, C band (1 530 ~ 1 560 nm) is a golden bandwidth in optical fiber communication system. It is of great significance to design a novel dispersion compensation photonic crystal fiber (DCPCF) within C band, and this DCPCF should be with great negative dispersion coefficient and well match with the dispersion slope compensation for the single mode fiber G.652. So DCPCF is researched deeply from theoretical design to experimental measurement with many efforts in this paper. The main contents include:First, a developed dual-concentric-core DCPCF structure is proposed. Through detailed analysis of different structures and parameters by using the multi-pole method (MPM), the Dispersion slope is optimized and a good solution for compensation is obtained.Secondly, based on the requirements of the standard fiber G.652, a DCPCF is designed to compensate fiber G.652 well and its dispersion,dispersion slope,relative dispersion slope and residual dispersion all have perfect results by a lot of calculations and selections.Finally, because it is necessary to check the correctness of above design, the measurement technique for the dispersion of PCF is developed, which is based on the Interferometry to obtain the broadband chromatic dispersion of PCF. And the experimental setup is advanced and the theory of the measurement is developed. Trough the hard work, a suitable approach is proposed within the conditions of our lab to realize the measurement of dispersion for PCF,also for DCPCF at the same time.
