As the key technology of WSN (Wireless Sensor Network), localization is an essential task of many applications in WSNs, of which core is localization algorithm. This paper mainly deals with the range-based self-localization algorithm in WSNs.First, based on the existing methods, a novel WSN self-localization algorithm is proposed, which is called the improved algorithm. The algorithm makes use of an improved LS estimator to obtain an initial location estimation, then selects the best geometric layout through GDOP (Geometric Dilution of Precision) value, in the end introduces iterative process which can significantly mitigate the NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) error to gain the final location estimation. Simulation results show the algorithm can provide better performance in comparison to the existing range-based self-localization method even under severe NLOS environment. Then, based on the proposed algorithm mentioned above, a novel WSN weighted amalgamation self-localization algorithm is proposed. The algorithm takes care of the special scenes where the improved algorithm can not be directly applied in the real world WSNs, and mitigates the cumulate error during self-localization, which has great impact on the localization accuracy. Simulation results show the improvement of the weighted amalgamation self-localization on the mitigation of cumulate error, and the algorithm can be applied to the situation where the communication radius is short, and the anchor rate is low.
