Nowadays, LD pumped solid-state lasers are most popular and important area with many advantages such as high efficiency, long lifetime, compactness and high stability. The thermal effects of Nd:GdVO4 are studied theoretically and experimentally in this paper. The main content can be generalized as follows:1 The history and progress are reviewed, and the thermal effects are summarized such as the methods of measure the thermal effects or how to relieve the effects.2 The thermal effects of LD end-pumped Nd:GdVO4 are studied theoretically and experimentally . Based on the Poisson's equation, the effects are mathematical analysis in details . And a 532nm laser is used as a probe beam in the experiments, there will be some far-field images of the probe beam. A model, presented using beam interference theory can explain the images well and we got a new formula for calculating the thermal focal length .3 The LD end-pumped Nd:GdVO4 lasers are designed and created ,we got the good results.
