More traffic accidents which were caused of driver fatigue have taken place and how to avoid driver fatigue has become increasingly a cause for concern. PERCLOS is an on-vehicle, real-time and non-contact method of fatigue measurement, which is recognized as its accuracy and potential. This paper research several key point in fatigue detection. Finaly using PERCLOS method o determine the extent to which the driver's fatigue. When the diver is in fatigue, alarm is raised to avoid traffic accidents.The implement of software including several parts below: face location, eyes location iris location, distance between eyelids in the exposed area of the iris, evaluating PERCLOS. This paper process the 24-bit color image: every method is introduced simply below: 1) Face detection: using the color segmentation method to locate the face candidate region and then using the boundary projection method to detection the face; 2) Eye detection: Using morphological method of corrosion to dealing with human face candidate region. To course positioning the eyes based on organs geometric distribution. Let the color image converted to grayscale image and then detection. is edge use sobel Operator. Re-use edge detection combine projection method to detect the edge of the eye. The design eye location method has a certain anti-deflection characteristics for the face deflection; 3) Eye state detection: According to the iris in the eye of the gray-scale features, design templates for coarse positioning of the iris region. Then detection the edge of iris region. Then design algorithm to detection the left and right borders of the iris, and seek its height, then using the height degree to determine the eye opening or closing. (if eyes open too small is directly determine the eyes closed has closed).Calculate the iris relative height of the eyelid region for opening eye image. Finaly, get curves of the eye opening degree in a period of time; 4) PERCLOS calculated: use statistical methods to determine different people PERCLOS parameters: the normal eye opening degree and unit of time t. use the PERCLOS method to evaluation people fatigue.Experimental results show that the algorithm can accurately locate the driver eyes. And also can accurately detect the extent of its eyes open degree. Ultimately this algorithm be able to make the right driver fatigue evaluation.
