Network search engine (e.g., Traditional search engines) has got a huge development with the popularity of the Internet. It made a tremendous impact on people's life. Meanwhile, it made the capacity of hard disk in personal computer increased obviously. There are lots of files (e.g., office, e-mail, CHM, PDF, and HLP) in the PC disk. Then how to search files in the huge disk became a serious problem. So the desktop search engine is required to resolve the problem.First of all, the whole framework of the desktop search engine has been designed in this paper. The desktop search engine is divided into four modules: the document analysis module, the Chinese word segmentation module, the search module and the user interface;Second, many kinds of files have been resolved in this paper (e.g., office, e-mail, CHM, PDF, HLP, XML, INF and CSV). The desktop search engine can meet the company's needs for a variety of file formats through this module.Third, the Chinese word segmentation which based on Hierarchical Hidden Markov Model has been added into desktop search engine. It can improve the desktop search engine's search speed and search result through this module;Forth, the search module which based on KMP algorithm has been designed in this paper. And an optimized UI has been designed for users. The UI can be divided into several sections. The users can look for the results from different angles.At last, the desktop search software can test and verify its function by an example which in this paper. It is small and does not need to install. The search speed and search results of the desktop search engine are both very good. The users can search multiple keywords, and find the search results in the dialog box.
