MIMO-OFDM has been proposed as one of the most promising wireless communication technologies for the next generation wireless communication system. It can support high-rate transmission, combat multi-path fading, eliminate co-channel interference and guarantee the communication quality without increasing spectrum bandwidth.Nowadays, multimedia wireless communication has been one of the main means to obtain the information. However, the transmission rate of the current wireless communication network can not meet the requirements of multimedia communication system. MIMO-OFDM technology mentioned above is one of the most effective solutions for this problem. In this thesis, we process the multimedia information on PC, transmit it through the real-time MIMO-OFDM platform, and then we can get smooth playback of the real-time multimedia streams at the receiver.The main work in the thesis is as follows:1. Investigate the multimedia processing and design the multimedia processing module which includes information capture module, information compression module, information package module, information unpackage module, information decompression module, information playback module.2. Investigate all kinds of the multimedia APIs under the development environment and the principle of camera driver. Based on the knowledge above, design the multimedia terminal program which can be run well on PC.3. Investigate the interface between the PC and the hardware on which we realize the MIMO-OFDM real-time system, measure the data rate between them by experiments and finally realize the data communication between the PC and the hardware. 4. An adaptive rate adjustment algorithm is proposed for the problems caused by the uncertain wireless environment. We can adjust the bit rate of multimedia source according to the channel information to ensure the quality of the multimedia received.The test results show that, the reliable and real-time multimedia transmission can be realized at the MIMO-OFDM real-time platform efficiently through the software program and the adaptive rate adjustment algorithm.
