Solutions to the resonator parameters and pump parameters of Q-switched end-pumped DPL according to the given laser outputs are termed as backward design of lasers. In this paper, the model of a Q-switched end-pumped DPL is set up by solving the rate equations numerically. And the desired resonator parameters and bump parameters are obtained by modifying them accordingly in the algorithm. An experiment setup of Nd:YAG Q-switched end-pumped DPL is designed in accordance in this way and the experimental results give good agreement with the computed results.The second approach is the setup of a BP neural network model trained by the experimental data of Q-switched end-pumped DPL. Because of its capability of mapping the nonlinear relationship, the neural network can be used to predict required laser parameters. The prediction process runs fast, though it has to be retrained if the type of laser is different. In the end,3 experiment setups of Nd:YAG Q-switched end-pumped DPL are designed accordingly, whose results give excellent agreement with the predict results.
