In this paper, introduce the intelligent transport system background, content, research state, and the role of video detection technology in the intelligent transportation system. Next, introduce the basic building blocks of system of the video detection and track, focusing on analysis of the system's various hardware components , give the workflow diagram. For digital image processing itself some of the core algorithm in-depth research, such as image denoising, median filter, image enhancement, contrast enhancement algorithm.In the vehicle detection algorithm, through comparing and analysing various algorithm, the background subtracting method of the algorithm simple and fast is more suitable for the subject background of this article and meets the requirements, can be quickly and accurately extracted from the traffic out of field of view movement of vehicles and used as the vehicle movement detection methods. For the algorithm of background difference, background foundation and refreshing is the most important, several background updating model is introduced and the fast adaptive background update model is established in this paper. Considering the impact of vehicle shadow upon detecting, according to the vehicle shadow of inherent characteristics, removing the shadow pixel sets so as to achieve the purpose of inhibiting. the detection and tracking for moving vehicles based on establishing the traffic field background model, the moving vehicles are picked out by using the background difference method. Through the centroid coordinates, the minimum bounding rectangle, the area eigenvalue match, the use of Kalman filter model to track the target vehicle. The end, VC++6.0 object-oriented software as a platform for video images of the actual traffic to test, and achieved good results.
