Human vision is the most direct and important way to gain information from the world. Robot vision has developed into an independent discipline from begin of 20 century, and image analysis is more and more widely used in robotic systems.Our research project is the application of the image analysis in robotic systems, including face recognition technology of domestic service robot and the platform for cooperative and coordinated control of mobile robots based on vision systems. We integrate a variety of image analysis methods, sum up and overcome various problems in practical application to build their own programs, which can be applied to real or simulation systems.In this paper, image processing and pattern recognition technology at home and abroad, as well as the development of robot technology are reviewed and some important applications of image analysis method in robot system are introduced. Based on the realistically environment, integrating and improving some existing methods, we propose our own methods. Through continuous testing and improvement, it can achieve good application results. The structures of the system, the algorithms' implementation, the verification and debugging process and the final test results are described in detail. Finally, the improvements in some direction of the systems are proposed.Experimental results show that application of face recognition technology of domestic service robots can identify each member in a high recognition rate if the family members give certain circumstances; the application of image analysis technology in the platform for cooperative and coordinated control of mobile robots, can get high precision robot status information, and some multi-robot coordination control algorithms are successfully verified.
