The concept of binocular vision stems from human's eyes, which has a three-dimensional sense of space targets based on the parallex of the two eyes. According to the theory, a computer can carry out three-dimensional reconstruction of objects from two-dimensional images token by independent cameras. In a binocular vision measuring system, the cameras simulate the human eye, while the computer getting the three-dimensional information by processing images. Computer binocular vision is a popular and valuable research topic with a very wide range of applications. The paper will combine the computer binocular vision theory and moving target recognition technology, to achieve the tracking and measuring of a small target in the space. The paper begins with the description of the significance of binocular vision and research status. Then, the technologies, which used to realize the binocular vision system mentioned in this paper, is expatiated: discuss camera parameter calibration, stereo image-matching, object location, moving targets tracking. At last, the paper present a binocular vision system used to get the three-dimensional information of moving target, composed by two cameras and a computer. The system realizes the tracking and three-dimensional measurement of small moving targets. The results of experiment show the rationality, effectiveness and feasibility of the algorithm used in this paper. The system accuracy within 5%, proving that the system can monitor for small moving targets, and get the three-dimensional information accurately. The paper applied the principle of binocular visual in the small moving-targets tracking originally, which provides research theory for binocular vision monitor.
