With the development of the computer and multimedia management technology, the simulation of human perception of emotion in music becomes a topic on that many researchers are devoting. Algorithms are proposed to extract certain components that catch human attention about musical rhythm. Music rhythm extraction attracts more and more attention because rhythm, the music of the soul, is of great importance in music emotional expression.Generally speaking, rhythm is a phenomenon that appears in music and beats regularly. However, compared to the human's simple activity, it is difficult for computer to work as well as human. Nowadays a number of rhythm detection algorithms are proposed by researchers in the field of intelligence. Most of them are based on personal computer or mainframe computer with a wealth of hardware resources. These computers are able to handle large amounts of data with high detection accuracy. But for small music controlled system, users hope to get the music rhythm and audio energy at a lower cost such as MCU.According to the need of the rhythm detection and energy output, a music rhythm extraction system based on MCU is proposed in the paper. Signal preprocess strategy, music signal extraction circuit, interference cancellation algorithm and energy output control algorithm are presented. Both the hardware and software algorithm are discussed. In the hardware, music signal is amplified and converted to digital data. The software algorithms are based on hardware platform. Its function is to carry out frequency measurement and rhythm extraction algorithm, improve programmable gain blocks algorithm, and reply to user when system parameter are set. Finally, the new rhythm extraction algorithm is applied to three music of different melody to contrast the experiment result. The result show that the rhythm and input signal appear simultaneously.This new system just requires the less hardware resources. Its characteristic is low cost, simplified module and practicability. The system is applies to some small music systems, such as children's toys, family-oriented musical fountain and so on.
