Discrete data visualization is a fundamental and important part in Computer Graphics. The contour and isosurface map is an important part of discrete data visualization. It has been used widely in many different subjects such as Geoscience, Aerography and Iatrology. This paper mainly discusses the methods of contour and isosurface plotting about the discrete data.In the part of contour plotting, this paper mainly discusses the theory knowledge of the building ,smoothing and filling and their algorithmic realization. Because of the scarce data points and complex faults, this paper presents an advanced fault recovering method to solve this special situation. This method has three advantages: first, the method provides an efficient stratum displacement interpolation function to simulate stratum displacement field caused by fault and the displacement field matches with fault throw. Second, this method takes into account fully the space relativity of data lying in two sides of the fault and this not only makes the result correspond with the whole trend and the varying trend near the fault.In the part of isosurface plotting, this paper discusses the extraction of isosurface based on the implicit surface reconstruction. This method can quickly give the result of the position between the point and the surface, and it has a lot of advantages at varying from one object to another object. Furthermore, this paper optimizes the multi-resolution surface reconstruction algorithm. This method sampling each point based on its density in different layer, so it can give better display effects. Finally, the isosurface is extracted by using the Marching Cube algorithm. Then using the asymptote algorithm to avoid the ambiguity of the Marching Cube algorithm.The testing results shows that the method is effective and practical. The research provides a new way for the contour and isosurface plotting.
