It was becoming a new research aspect in metallurgical field domain to identifying metallurgical microstructure automatic. The research and development propelled that the metallurgical microstructure technology was became better. So it had a brightly perspective.Firstly, this paper analyzed the traditional metallurgical microstructure identification technology. It was not only slowly, but also could causing visual error easily. Then we pointed out the automatic identification technology which this paper was used. The metallurgical microstructure was to be digitized. Edge map which was obtained after digital process would be transform into spectrum map through FFT, then matched the map in digital illustration database though spectrum similarity. In this way, we could realize automatic identification.Secondly, when it was chosen as the system research object, the framework was constructed. Then the way was brought forward that how to achieve identification metallurgical microstructure automatic. Then we discuss it from four modules of key technologies, including digital image acquisition and quantification module, digital image processing module, identification and match module, and digital illustration database management module.Finally, by researching the foundation knowledge of support technology which was used in identification system, this paper obtains the main key technologies of the system, including digital image processing, pattern recognition (spectrum similarity) and database management. At the same time, these main key technologies were used and tested.
