The global mobile communication has been developing fast in recent years, besides the voice service, the data service is on the increase too. However, none of the existing wireless systems can simultaneously satisfy the requirements of the future mobile communications and pervasive computing. To the 3G mobile communication network for the rapid development of wireless communication networks, while WLAN access in the form of high-bandwidth applications has become a hot topic too, thus form an integreated 3G-WLAN represented communications heterogeneous network.Like as all the comunication and computing network, much attention should be paid to information security in the progress of the heterogeneous wireless network. The heterogeneous wireless network integrates advantages of each network, inevitably, it also brings their defects in the network convergence. In spite of the security requirements existing in the current homogeneous wireless network, it will be faced with further security problems, such as Internet security, seamless integration of security protocol and new security requirements because of providing heterogeneous service. This dissertation mainly studies on the authentication and key agreement of future heterogeneous wireless convergence, analyzes the procedure and security of the EAP-AKA protocol adopted by 3GPP-WLAN, and presents the vulnerability and attacks for the protocol. To solve such security problems for the protocol, a new authentication and key agreement protocol is presented, which overcomes the drawbacks of transferring the MSI (International Mobile Station Identity) by plaintext, and achieves authentication of WLAN-AN and secure transfer of message between WLAN-AN to HSS. Finally, an authentication test verification based on the strand space model has been made.In order to reduce the network traffic and signaling message produced by the new scenario, it is pointed out that the number K of AVs (authentication vectors) obtained from authentication center and the number of re-authentication can affect the authentication signaling cost. A new dynamic K select technique was proposed to predict the proper value of K in current WLAN. The simulation result shows that the new scheme can efficiently reduce the authentication signaling cost compared with the fixed K authentication mechanism.
