At present, Prebaked Aluminium Reduction Cells are used in most aluminum companies of our country. As the main equipment in production, how the aluminium reduction cells work influences the quantity and quality of aluminum. The temperature is an important featrue of aluminium reduction cells. It will help us to diagnose the condition of reduction cell, localize the breakages and restore them by monitoring temperature continuously. Therefore, it is essential to measure the temperature of aluminium reduction cells automatically and real-time.This project is developed by the Shandong University and Ke Ao aluminum company of Yan Zhou coal mine. According to the production safety standards of related industries, a Web-based system which is used to monitor the temperature of aluminium reduction cells was designed. The design objective of this system is to develop a set of temperature monitoring system for aluminium reduction cells using hardware which applies Fiber Bragg Grating Sensing Technology combined with software which is base on computer network, database technology, and information technology. The part of hardware is made up of fiber bragg grating sensor as the temperature detection equipment and fiber-optic network with large capacity and high-speed as the transmission medium of information. This system is desinged to be non-exclusive, scalable, maintainability and supposed to provide information exactly and timely.Ke Ao aluminum company of Yan Zhou coal mine is the experimental unit of this project. In order to give the functional requirement and performance requirement of system, we did a lot of field work and communicated with responsible members many times. After that the general construction of the system was designed. The work of hardware system is composed of FBG sensor's design and encapsulation, optical signal transmission system's architectural design and line collocation, top management system's design.The software of this system is divided into three parts according to the function of each part: data acquisition module,data communication module and upper-computer software system. The data acquisition module is in charge of collecting temperature data. The program of this part was developed in LabVIEW7.1 programming environment. The data communication module's functions are to store the information in database and transfer configuration information from database to hardware. The upper-computer software is the window of the system and it's architecture is based on B/S mode. So that the users are supposed to get data and information from a Web browser. The upper-computer software system takes charge of real-time displaying, historic data query, system initialization, parameters-setting,alarm and so on. We designed the upper-computer software,gave the requirement analysis of the system and the function modularization in detail. Then the functions of the system was realized by compliling the programme of the Client-side in Java programming language.The database server, which is in charge of data-exchanging and data-sharing, is the core of the system. So we choose Oracle database management system, a system with good performance, high reliability and quick response speed, etc. This paper shows in detail the work of various stages in the process of database design. Including analysis of database requirements, conceptual structure design, logical structure design, database physical design, atabase implementation and maintenance.The research of aluminum reduction cells temperature monitoring system will extends the life of the reduction cells to a greate extent, and can greatly improve the pre-alarming capacity of aluminum prodution process.
