Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, OBS (Optical Burst Switching), for its advantages, is widely regarded as one of the most promising candidates for next generation IP/DWDM all-optical networks. This paper is divided into two parts and is organized as follows:In the first part, an improved Grid over OBS architecture is investigated, specifically: (1) By introducing a P2P-based resource discovery algorithm, an improved optical Grid architecture is proposed. In this architecture, the resource information is periodically registered. By this means, Grid network can provide nearer Grid resource provider to Grid users, which will reduce the time for resource discovery.(2) The proposed architecture is evaluated and demonstrated on the LOBS network testbed. Compared with our previous work, it can balance the load and shorten the resource discovery time, which are beneficial for Grid users. In the second part, the control interface of the OBS/GMPLS network is extended to support three kinds of protect and restoration scheme, i.e., 1P1, Preplan and Reroute, specifically:(1) The previous OBS/GMPLS (Generalized Multi Protocol Label Switching) control interface is updated: more signaling is introduced and existed signaling is updated. Control and processing modules for protection and restoration are designed and implemented.(2) Experiments of protection and restoration are carried out on the OBS/GMPLS testbed. The results show that the updated control interface has a very good performance.
