As an technology of comprehensive application of computational mechanics, computational mathematics, information science and other related disciplines,CAE(computer-aided engineering) has been an important tool and means of innovative research and design for engineer, and has been played an important role in improving the quality of the performance and the services of products. Combining with other computer technology, CAE enable enterprise to make rapid response of diversity of modern market products, complexity, reliability and economy, significantly reduced production cost and then enhanced the market competitiveness of enterprises. So, CAE analysis has been a compulsory specification in many field of design and manufacturing process.Although CAE technology is widely used, but most case remains in the parts-class, and CAE system which is used for the whole parts of the CAE analysis has begun to attract the attention and got some research results.At present, there are many issues that need further study for there is not a unified knowledge of the CAE system.This paper mainly does the follow research on the architecture of CAE system and its application for the problems that exist in the practical application of the CAE system with examples of the application of CAE:(1) Based on the concept of the CAE and status quo of the research and application of CAE technology at home and abroad, analyzed the meaning and characteristics of CAE system, established CAE system architecture which contained product design module, analysis module, product data management module, and studied the function and the relationship between them each module.(2) Based on the general processes of CAE analysis and the characteristics of applications technology, studied the key technologies of CAE, such as establishment of the geometric model and finite element model (including the mesh, the whole system decomposition and synthesis, boundary and load handling, etc), solving process, the management of results data and so on; and mainly studied the decomposition and composition techniques of system focused on system engineering CAE analysis and the connection between components of whole system.(3) Use a case of thermal stress analysis of a steel billet free roll to reflect the results of this study. That is, using the product design module to complete the establishment of the geometric model of the project, using the engineering analysis module to complete the thermal stress analysis including meshing the model and processing load boundary, using product data management module analyzing the results to provide a theoretical basis for the improvement of free roll.The research work of this paper has a theoretical reference value to using the CAE key technologies of application reasonably and efficiently, establishing and realizing synergies of the CAE system architecture; and also provided guidance and reference for the engineering practice to some extent.
