Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) communication system has the advantages of signal strong penetration ability, high multi-path resolution, large system capacity and etc. Therefore, it becomes increasingly attractive to the researchers and experts, which results in a research-rush in this field recently. UWB system transmitting data by nanosecond short pulses without carrier, which could overcome multi-path effect, is a promising candidate of future high-speed data communication.In UWB system, the short pulse is of short duration, low working signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and high data transmitting rate up to hundreds of Mbps. Thus, the achievement of synchronization is a challenging but significant work, as well as the designs of the template signal and multi-path energy diversity. The UWB differential scheme with a non-coherent receiver offers a way to solve these problems, but may lead to performance degradation due to inadequate synchronization knowledge. Accordingly an adaptive synchronization algorithm based on Sub-Integration Windows (SIWs) is proposed by Ning He. However, when the number of SIWs increases, the synchronization procedure is of low search efficiency. Several fast search algorithms having been applied to coherent receiver process the merits of high search efficiency, however, some of those algorithms are of application limitation. Therefore, firstly Bit Reverse Search Method is expended to an enlarged application field by breaking the 2 exponent search region based limitation in this paper, and then through combining a few fast search algorithms which have been applied in coherent receiver, a novel synchronization algorithm is proposed based on Ning He's. When the SIWs partly overlap, the novel algorithm engages higher search efficiency, and achieves synchronization more rapidly than Ning He's.This paper discusses the proposed novel adaptive synchronization algorithm according to the Ning He's comparatively in view of the information and synchronization state transition, and then puts the algorithm into simulation. It is shown that the proposed new adaptive synchronization algorithm based on threshold possesses superior search efficiency compared to Ning He's. Above all the new synchronization algorithm is of high theoretical innovation value.
