Wireless sensor network (WSN) has become a new researching hotspot focused by many countries, which is the cross of many disciplines. It has the abilities of information collection, transmission and processing as it includes various technologies, such as sensor technology, wireless communication technology and computation technology. The appearance of the ZigBee protocols which have the characteristics of low cost, low power consumption and simple applications offer a good opportunity to wireless sensor network. At the same time, it offers the chance to the applications based on micro-control technology and the development of related industries. Nowadays, the real-time localization in the ZigBee network becomes a hot topic in the world. This thesis has analyzed the fundamental knowledge and current situation of wireless sensor network and ZigBee technology, and summed up the categories of coverage model after studying the coverage problems of wireless sensor network. Then a binary awareness model based on stochastic sensor placement and a stochastic multi-objective PSO arithmetic based on binary system which is applied on awareness model have been present. The simulation results indicated that stochastic multi-objective PSO arithmetic is able to optimize the nodes coverage fleetly and efficiently. On the premise of the acquisition of a same network coverage and nodes utilization ratio, stochastic multi-objective PSO arithmetic is more rapid than genetic algorithm in convergence. This thesis has also introduced a rising technology of wireless sensornetwork--ZigBee technology. After researching and analyzing the ZigBee protocol, this thesis has described the design of the PHY and MAC layers in detail. Then the paper has chosen a ZigBee's hardware scheme CC2430/CC2431 which is offered by Texas Instruments Company to design a mine tunnel localization system based on ZigBee network. At last, the thesis has experimented a simple indoor wireless localization test utilizing ZigBee's hardware platform. And the theoretical feasibility of ZigBee technology in the application of real-time wireless localization through the short distance of a mine tunnel is validated.
