With the wide application of electric power electron device and increasing number of high power non-linear load, harmonic pollution in electric power systems is becoming serious and doing great harm to the security of power supply. Therefore, it is the working focus for engineers to research on harmonic problems and take corresponding measures to efficiently control it.This paper takes the harmonic control of high performance computer power supply of some engineering as background; it analyzes the actual harmonic situation of the engineering and comparatively studies many kinds of harmonic control solutions, and proposes an effective harmonic control solution. The paper first introduces the harmonic generation and the harms to electric power systems, the present status of harmonic control at home and abroad and relative parameter calculations of harmonic analysis. Then it analyzes in detail the common methods of harmonic control and the principles of corresponding devices and their advantages and disadvantages. This paper discusses the working principles of active power filter, harmonic detection, compensation methods, control strategy and application situation. It also analyzes phase shifting transformer application methods in multi-phase rectifying circuits. Finally, this paper proposes a comprehensive plan of harmonic control: select reasonably the connection group of distribution transformers; design a system plan using LC filters, phase-shifting rectifier transformers and active power filters; determines the patterns and parameters of device parts by means of simulation, test and experiment. The results of test and engineering application show that the solution can effectively control the harmonic currents and meet the harmonic control requirement of some engineering.
