Digital Technology had been applied to movie production before 1980s, but until recently real digital film has appeared. In real digital film, shooting, post-production, distribution and projecting must be thoroughly digitized. After that, traditional film will be replaced with digital film. With the rapid development of information technology, especially the development of mass data storage, image coding and computer network technologies, digital film production had gained solid theoretical basis. In order to promote the practical application of digital film production, this paper primarily focuses on deep research on key technologies of digital film production. Research as follows:Based on DCI V1.0 specification, this paper makes research on the overall architecture of digital cinema system, and puts emphasis upon research on digital film production process in the digital cinema system, and makes deep research on image compression and file wrapping, and makes a software to implement digital film image compression and file wrapping which is fit to DCI V1.0 specification. The main functions of this software is as follows:1) Apply JPEG2000 image compression and MXF wrapping to picture files.2) Apply MXF wrapping to compressed image code stream.3) Apply MXF wrapping to sound files.4)Composition Play List and Packing List which are created by organizing and editing the video/audio MXF files compose the digital cinema package(DCP) with video/audio MXF files in a line.5) Resolve CPL and PKL to display video/audio MXF files information in the lists which can be modified.Through testing, the DCP which is generated by the software in this paper could be correctly decoded by digital cinema playing servers of Dolby, GDC and Quvis, and projected smoothly. It costs one month to compress more than 100,000 images of a two-hour film with JPEG2000 coding standard. It's too long. Therefore, this paper applies distributed computing technology to the digital cinema image compression, builds distributed image compression system, monitors the operation of this system, and analyzes the monitoring results to find the system bottlenecks and propose system improvements.Due to the high request of film image quality, the image which is reconstructed by decoding the compressed image must have similar quality to human visual system compared with the original image. Consequently, the evaluation of compressed image quality is particularly important. This paper first studies the current evaluation methods of image quality widely used, and then studies an objective image quality evaluation method which can effectively reflect the DCI digital cinema image quality according to the features of digital film image. Finally, this paper takes research on 3D graphics technology and makes a 3D virtual scene editor based on Direct3D graphical interfaces. This editor can select the active role in the scene, which can be translated, rotated and scaled, whose property can be modified as well.
