Automatic Target Recognition is one of the tough challenges in the research of the world military technology nowadays, in which the computer vision technology has been applied. Many visual missions about ATR are unable to be solved well now in computer vision, but they are easy in biological vision. This paper is based on the project named Research and Simulation on the Algorithm of Automatic Target Recognition Based on the Model of Biological Vision. This paper does the research on an improved receptive model in biological visual system. This model is then applied in some key techniques, such as edges detection and motion estimation. The main work includes:Classical LOG receptive field is discussed. Introduce mechanism in biological visual to improve the LOG receptive field.Research and simulation on an algorithm named A New Anisotropic High-pass Filtering Algorithm Based on Region Angle Searching.Research and simulation on A new algorithm named An Edge Detection Algorithm Based on Short-term Synaptic Plasticity in Gazing Mechanism in Human Visual System, based on an anisotropic stretch receptive field model which has arbitrary direction.A Full-angle Edge Detection Algorithm Based on Gazing Mechanism is proposed, based on an anisotropic stretch receptive field model which has arbitrary direction. Further improve the adaptive linear filtering algorithm based on gazing mechanism.A Target Location Algorithm Based on Total Pixel Traverse are proposed, based on the concept of pixel traverse. The new model of receptive field is also applied to motion estimation in this paper, A Target Location Algorithm Based on Inter-difference Detection Function Model is proposed. Finally, the main contributions in this dissertation are summarized and some suggestions and directions for the future work in this field are given.
