Since 1990s, the studies of new encryption systems based on chaotic system obtained rapidly development. Chaos is characterized by non-periodicity, boundedness, extremely sensitive dependence on initial conditions and system parameters. Because of these special features, chaos systems are suited for security communication and cryptography. In this paper, a chaotic stream encryption algorithm based on variable parameter Tent map is proposed with the research achievements in chaotic dynamics.Firstly, the significance of the study subjects and the researches of chaotic encryption at home and abroad are expounded. And the basic knowledge of cryptography, the basic concept of chaos and characteristics and determine the method of chaos are introduced. And analyze some typical chaotic system.On the base of the research of chaos, a chaotic encryption algorithm is presented. The variable parameter Tent map is used, whose chaotic characters are analyzed. On this base, a chaotic stream encryption algorithm based on variable parameter Tent map is proposed. Analysis is carried out for the security of encryption technology according to key analysis,confusion and diffusion analysis statistical properties.Finally, basic knowledge of image,chaotic image encryption algorithm,the key question of designing algorithm are introduced. A chaotic image encryption algorithm based on variable parameter Tent map is proposed. This algorithm contains two main modules—pixel values permutation and position permutation. And give the simulation examples, the result of which shows that the algorithm is effective.
