The development of high resolution satellite image has extended a new research field in photogrammetry. Based on summarizing the technology on precise positioning of high resolution satellite image, the epipolar line model of satellite image is studied in this paper. The efforts of his paper is devoted to solving the following four problems:(1)The difference of imaging mode between satellite image and frame-perspective image and the idea of epipolar projection tracking are analyzed, then the rational function model of high resolution satellite image and the precise positioning methods are summarized, which are the theoretical foundation for the epipolar model of satellite image by using the rational function model.(2)Based on the improvement of the epipolar line scanning method, a new algorithm for epipolar line generating based on elevation differential is proposed. In the proposed method, the trend and shape of the epipolar line in image are obtained by the differential of the elevation Z of ground points in the rational function model and then the position of the epipolar line in image is acquired by zero elevation points. This method has superiority in solving the epipolar line problem precisely under the rational function model.(3)The fundamental matrix under the rational function model is deduced on the basis of the proposed method. The correspondence between any point in an image and the epipolar line in another image is established by the fundamental matrix and then it is verified in theory that the precise conjugated epipolar line pair does not exist in the linear array images.(4)The precise positioning method and epipolar line generating algorithm are evaluated using IKONOS high resolution satellite images. The experiment results prove that the proposed epipolar line generating algorithm is accurate and effective.
