Restricted by the aperture fill time of array,the conventional phased array antenna(PAA) only operates under the relatively narrow band signals.It is difficult to realize a high instantaneous bandwidth and a wide-angle beam-scanning,which make it not suitable to more complex conditions and domains requiring high-performance.Optically controlled phased array antenna(OCPAA) with applied optical true time delay(TTD) can remove the restriction by the aperture fill time of array.With the optically controlled beamforming network, OCPAA offers well-known advantages of high instantaneous bandwidth,low propagation loss,small- size and weight,immunity to electromagnetic interference(EMI), remoting-capability,and squint free operation,so that it has become an important trend in the development of PAA.This thesis consists of two parts of work.The first part includes the basic theory of the scanning of PAA,the introduction of several optically controlled beamforming networks and the analysis of their advantages and disadvantages(Chapter 2).The optically controlled beamforming network based on integrated optical waveguide are introduced briefly(Chapter 3).The simulation of optical waveguide TTD with beam propagation method(BPM) and the design of PSQ-Ls based buried waveguide TTD are also presented(Chapter 3).The second part is the building up of a time delay measurement system.The time delay measurement system based on the direct modulation link using vector network analyzer is built up,and the preliminary optimization of the measurement uncertainty has been done (Chapter 4).
