ITU-T H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 Advanced Video Coding(commonly referred as H.264/AVC)is the newest international video coding standards.It was developed by a Joint Video Team(JVT)consisting of experts from ITU-T's Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG)and Moving Picture Experts Group(MPEG).In the process,the standard was created that improved compression efficiency by a factor about two(on average)over H.263.Several coding elements contribute to the great improvement in compression efficiency for the new standard.However,the computational complexity of the H.264/AVC encoder is dramatically increased by its optimization technique,and is about three times of H.264's.Inter motion estimation and Deblock loop filter system are the most complexity degree sections.Then it is necessary to optimize its arithmetic for the implement in real-time applications.In the dissertation,we do research on these two issues:We proposes an improved hardware architecture based on original deblocking filter.The new architecture adopts 4 key technology:the changed order of block boundary,the allocation of location,the filter architecture and the dual transposed register. Simulation show that the it only cost 288 clock cycles for the proposed architecture to filter a 16×16 microblock.The filter module has high time-area efficiency,which merely costs 16.3k logic gate and 640 byte blockRAM.A fast motion estimation algorithm based on the MV set is proposed after a detailed survey of current algorithms of the two parts of the motion estimation:the mode selection of the block segment and the directional search.Considering the distributed character of the elements in the MV set,the algorithm judges the block segment mode and accurately locates the initialized MV.The judgement method of the block segment mode is quick and effective.Meanwhile,compared with other algorithms,this algorithm with the accurately initialized MV deduces the search range and ensures the search accuracy.The MV set combines the two parts with each other and optimizes the algorithm of the motion estimation.Experimental results show that the algorithm can ensure the quality of the video and improve the complexity degree greatly and provide a new approach for the future research in motion estimation.Direction extendable search(DES)is an effective search algorithm.However,it can not obtain the high search precision for the exquisite sections of images.In the meanwhile,the section 4 presents an extending direction extendable search (EDES).EDES adopts alterable directional search,adaptively selects pattern to obtain the number of search direction according to the motion characteristic of images and introduces the follow small diamond pattern to match along the line direction.Experiments results show that EDES can increase the search precision and reduce the encoding length significantly with negligible PSNR and encoding speed decreasing for the images so that it can achieve better compression ratio.
