Medical image processing is a kind of technique that makes use of image vision to assist clinical diagnoses. Therefore,it has become a research hotspot nowadays. The study of the segmentation of MRI Spine Image is of crucial importance for computer aided medical image identifying and clinical studies of neurological pathology.Computer characterization of a vertebra or disk is of limited clinical value if that structure cannot be accurately segmented and identified. As traditional assessment of vertebral fracture,we should manually mark on each vertebra six points thatare four comers and mid-points of upper and lower edges and then measuring the height in the front, middle and back of vertebral.Operations of tracking these structures are so tedious that the automatically detection and segmentation are of important clinical value. In the paper,I concentrate in quantitative analysis of the whole spine MRI,put forward a feasibility method which could find the special coordinates of all disks by means of translating to coronal plane from sagittal plane. This method is especially effective for severe scoliosis patients.I use watershed to segment the disks from the whole image with the inter marks which are the information of the detection. Then I use level set to segment the vertebra. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by experiments using real MR images provided by College of Medicine,University of Cincinnati. And we also propose further improvement in this study.
