At present, the world's traffic demand is increasing. Considering the public's various traffic demands, comprehensively utilizing all kinds of traffic information, and providing various forms of traffic information services to the public have become the main direction of development in the last few years. Meanwhile, the core technology of traffic information services has gradually shifted from application-based to business or service-based technologies.Facing the problems of urban traffic congestion, frequently accidents and environmental pollution, in the 1980's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) came into being. A series of subsystems of both independent and collaborative work compose the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The whole benefit of the intelligent transport system depends mainly on the conformity and harmony of each subsystem. However, knowledge sharing and integration between subsystems must be built on the basis of common understanding of knowledge. So, the first problem to be solved is the mismatch of semantics between the subsystems, that is, the issue of integration of intelligent transportation system in the semantic-level.As a new method to describe the hierarchical structure of concept and semantic model, ontology is the effective way to solve the interactive, sharing and reuse of knowledge. The essence of ontology is knowledge sharing and reuse. The domain ontology of Standardization and formalization provides a good solution for interoperability of information systems, and has been applied and researched in many areas since being raised.In the background of urban transportation, based on the techniques of knowledge representation of ontology model, we develop urban traffic ontology. We firstly establish the urban transportation domin ontology from the point of technical system, and then establish the urban transportation service ontology from the perspective of services system based on the domin ontology. Finally, we apply tne constructed ontology to the urban traffic information service management and integrated platform, realize the semantic description of the service function, achieve the urban traffic information service Intelligent search, and provide a more comprehensive, timely and effective urban transportation information services.
