Research On Antenna Selection Algorithm In MIMO System

Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems have been studied extensively because of their exceptional power and bandwidth efficiencies. However, the complexity of MIMO encoding and decoding algorithms grows significantly with the number of antennas. Antenna selection is a promising technique for construction of multiple-antenna wireless communication devices with lower hardware complexity, while maintaining most of the gains predicted by the information theory.This paper presents MIMO communication systems with antenna selection technique. Antenna selection technique is explored from three aspects. The selection criterion for channel capacity is proposed, and comparisons with the existing strategies are presented. Antenna subset selection for bit error rate minimization of a MIMO system is derived. At the same time, MIMO-OFDM communication systems employing antenna selection algorithm with maximal ratio combining (MRC) are investigated. The paper is organized as follows.In MIMO communication system, it is proposed to select the subset of transmit or receive antennas based on the Shannon capacity criterion. Several antenna selection algorithms are presented, such as random algorithm, increase algorithm, fanshi algorithm and so on. To verify the performance of antenna selection based on the Shannon capacity criterion, simulation is executed.In MIMO communication system, it is presented that antenna subset selection for bit error rate minimization. The scheme is simulated by matlab software tool.In MIMO-OFDM communication system, it is investigated that a new scheme with applying antenna selection algorithm at the transmitter and the receiver. To examine the performance of the proposed scheme, the multi-path channel model recommended by the IEEE 802.16d indoor channel standard is also discussed.
