It is the important process to acquisition, pointing and tracking in free space laser communication system. The coarse detector and the fine detector are different units in representative APT system. The coarse detector senses the beaconing laser and provides information to principal axis of servo mechanism. The fine detector senses the beaconing laser farther and provides exacter information to sub-axis of servo mechanism.The smart tracking CCD camera with miss distance calculation function is designed in this paper. Single CCD is used in facula detecting of coarse and fine of APT system. This camera consists of an array CCD, central processing and calculating unit (FPGA), video signal processor (TLV990) and multi-channel power supply. FPGA output drive timing signals to CCD and control signals, Array CCD output signal to TLV990,After processes of CDS(correlated double sampler),PGA (programmable-gain amplifier) and ADC (analog-to-digital), then send back to FPGA who calculates the laser facula miss distance data. This data is to output to servo mechanism by RS485 interface standard.
