Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is an important research direction in array signal processing field, which has a very broad application prospects, such as radar, communication, sonar, navigation, electronic countermeasures, smart antenna and so on. The estimation of DOA based on array signal processing is the main topic of spatial spectrum estimation. Modern spectral analysis based on the theory of super-resolution spatial spectrum estimation techniques, aimed at solving the high-resolution and high-precision direction-finding problem. The MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm, presented by Schmidt is the most classical super-resolution algorithm. Based on an exact model of antenna array, the MUSIC algorithm can estimate the DOA of uncorrelated signals accurately. However, MUSIC algorithm cannot estimate the DOA of adjacent signals with small SNR. Many man-made signals in communications exhibit cyclostationarity. The research on improvement of signal processing performance by using the cyclostationarity of signals has become a hot spot.The main approach to solve this problem is to make full use of signal sources' information.The MUSIC algorithms based on the cyclostationarity property have a better performance in noise suppressing and signal selectivity by using the cyclosationarity property of signal into array signal processing. However , the signal resolution of this algorithm is limited, when the signal with cyclic correlation is considered. To solve this problem, an improved cyclic MUSIC algorithm was presented in this paper. Owing to cannot estimate the DOA of coherent signals, this paper also introduce the spatial smoothing MUSIC algorithm and the improved spatial smoothing MUSIC algorithm .The MUSIC algorithm was presented in this paper and simulated with MATLAB. The results have indicated that the MUSIC algorithm has statistic efficiency, high resolution, and good accuracy. In this paper, MUSIC is chosen as the algorithm for the DOA estimation of non-correlated signals. Some improved MUSIC algorithms of signal is presented to solve the shortcomings of the MUSIC algorithm and simulated with MATLAB. The results have indicated that the improved MUSIC algorithms have good performance.The operation speed of DSP chip is improving with development of microprocessor technology, the real time of DOA will come true.Especially the real-time realization of MUSIC algorithm will make an important practical significance for the development of this field. ADSP-TigerSHARC101 is used as the digital signal estimation system. The above-mentioned algorithm and their implementation procedures are fully discussed in this paper.
