Metallic doors and windows is the protection structure of buildings. During the course of curtain metallic doors and windows'designing, there are some widespread problems such as large amounts of information, long design cycle, high error rate and time after time remanding, etc. So, aiming at the features the features of the metallic doors and windows structure and the needs of CAD for metallic doors and windows. Based on the studies on the CAD system for metallic doors and windows and its core technologies, the CAD software special for the metallic doors and windows is developed.First, based on the analysis of the CAD software available and the study on function and structure for metallic doors and windows, CAD system needs for metallic doors and windows is summarized. Introducing the theory of generalized modular, the total design plan of CAD system for metallic doors and windows based on generalized modular is put forward. Meanwhile, and the structure and function of the system are designed, then the process model for metallic doors and windows CAD system based on generalized modular is given.Second, this paper studied the core technologies for developing the CAD system for metallic doors and windows based on generalized modular, such as a modeling technology of generalized modular for metallic doors and windows, constructing technology of generalized windows-shape, and the technology of drawing processing and so on. The principle in modeling technology of generalized modular are analyzed, the integration model of generalized modular for metallic doors and windows is given. With the method , the model of generalized modular is defined as a integration of the process model based on parameter sets , the graph drawing object and the inner hierarchical structure knowledge base. the data exchange between the generalized modulars is transformed into the exchange of accurate parameters , improving the interaction efficiency and accuracy. Based on the analysis of the interface and constraint of the windows-shape design for metallic doors and windows, the constructing technology of generalized windows-shape based on the unit constraint reasoning is given. With restriction reasoning base on unit, the geometric model and the information model for generalized windows-shape can be generated automatically. And the generalized windows-shape can be reused in the series configuration design as configuration model frequently. So, the development cycle is shortened and makes design more efficient. Based on the analysis the current technology of graphic parameterization, the technology of graphic parameterization based on expression is put forward.Finally, based on the studies above all, the CAD system for metallic doors and windows base on generalized modular is developed, which is being successfully running in several enterprises and has got good application effects. Application shows that the system is highly practical and adaptive capacity, which can effectively shorten the metallic doors and windows design cycle and improve design quality.
