High speed moving flat belt will inevitably run off due to assembling and running state of the belt. If the mistracking information of the flat belt is not sent to tracking control system in time for further processing, the aftermath will be very serious.After researching the latest position-detection technology at home and abroad and considering the special working condition of the system, the author use a method based on CIS for flat belt edge-position detection.Based on the analysis of signal processing methods of obtaining the accurate position of flat belt, the author develops a system for flat belt edge position detection based on CIS. Using CIS as imaging sensor and MCU as processor, the system configures banishing-noise circuit and high speed A/D convertor to process the pretreatment and collection of the signal. The system sends the edge position of flat belt to PLC in form of analog signals for edge position control, and respectively to IPC in form of digital signals for position display.Considering the measurement error due to the shape of flat belt, three methods for obtaining the real position information have been given, based on the analysis of the detecting signals'characteristic. The applicability of each method has been discussed.The system for edge position detection of flat belt based on CIS can detect boundary of flat belt in high speed accurately and fast. The system, which is simple in structure, low in power consumption, small in size, and low in cost, can be used for edge position detection and width measurement. The system will have extensive applying prospect.
