Due to their uniqueness and persistence, fingerprints are used as main basis of personal identity. Automated fingerprint identification system, a technology of fingerprint identification using computer, is of convenience, high efficiency, security and reliability. It has been applied in many fields such as financial security, data encryption, electronical business and will play a more and more important role in our life.In this paper, I systematically study automatic fingerprint identification theory and technology, and it focuses on filter bank-based automatic fingerprint identification technology. The proposed filter-based algorithm uses a bank of Gabor filters to capture both local and global details in a fingerprint as a compact fixed length FingerCode. The fingerprint matching is based on the Mahalanobis distance between the two corresponding FingerCodes. I discuss locating reference point, designing Gabor filters, filtering and constructing, extracting features and matching one by one. In this process, I analysis and contrast the superiority-inferiority of some algorithms related to automatic fingerprint identification technology.Fingerprint solution was proposed on the rotation of the Fingerprint Recognition problem. I research a threshold segment arithmetic based on gray characteristic, which contains fixed threshold segment algorithm and dynamic threshold segment algorithm.I develop a filerbank-based automated fingerprint identification system. Compared with traditional Gabor-based fingerprint recognition algorithm structure, the experiment result shows that it works well with good recognition rate, stability.
