The Environment we live in is the 3D(three-dimensional) landscape on the Earth's surface, such as Natural entities, artificial structures, irregular natural phenomena and animals. In the early stage, because of the limitation of the Spatial Information theory and technology, people understand the surface environment by the two-dimensional data which is the abstract and expression of the real world. The data record the information of x and y axis, but it don't include the elevation of z axis. There are many defects in the expression of three-dimensional landscape by two-dimensional data, and it can not meet the real needs quietly. In the recent years, with the development of the computer graphics, geographic information system, the remote sensing, photogrammetry and virtual reality technology etc, we can obtain the three-dimensional landscape data of the earth surface and express if in the computer.Because the the three-dimensional landscape can give people more real feeling. The three-dimensional digital representation of landscape show great application potential in the fields of urban planning, transportation, pipeline management, preservation of cultural relics, entertainment and military simulation. The study of three-dimensional landscape modeling is helpful to the development of modeling technologies of landscape, and has great significance in the industry application, so it has become the research focus of spatial information science. At present, three-dimensional modeling technologies of landscape has developed, but because of the complexity of three-dimensional landscape, the theory and technologies of three-dimensional landscape modeling is still in the initial stage, it is necessary of the further research to improve the landscape modeling.With the help of the technologies of three-dimensional geographic information system, computer graphics, remote sensing and photogrammetry and on the basis of previous research, the paper researched the modeling theory and technologies of terrain, buildings, water bodies, vegetation, natural phenomena and human. These theory and technologies have developed but not reached maturity, a lot of problems remain to be solved. With the help of the VC6.0 and OpenGL, the terrain, buildings, water bodies, vegetation, natural phenomena and human have modeled in the computer.The main research contents are as follows:1. The modeling methods of the topography, vegetation, buildings, water bodies, natural phenomena, human, but these methods have problems.2. The visualization technologies of OpenGL, including data preparation, parameter settings, model construction, projection transformation and viewpoint transformation.3. With the help of the VC6.0 and OpenGL, the terrain, buildings, water bodies, vegetation, natural phenomena and human have been modeled in the computer, and expatiated the detailed process of modeling.4. The storage and dynamic scheduling algorithms of DEM, three-dimensional model data and image data in the spatial database.The research on the three dimensional modeling of landscape is practice of the three dimensional modeling theory, and is helpful to the development of the three dimensional modeling technologies, and of great practical significance for the industry application.
